Due to the extenuating circumstances placed upon the Yale community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the YHHAP Fast could not take place as scheduled on April 24.

However, our partner organizations and local nonprofits in New Haven need support more than ever. In past semesters, thanks to the choice of Yale students to participate, the YHHAP Fast has raised more than $13,000 in meal swipes to support organizations that address housing and food insecurity in New Haven, from soup kitchens to emergency shelters to advocacy groups. These basic needs, which require our attention every semester, are especially acute in the public health and economic crises of COVID-19, which have affected almost all routine services and events in the city. Right now, vulnerable New Haven residents and those who suffer from homelessness are in need of emergency aid relief to buy food, seek shelter, and self-isolate.

As a “virtual” Fast, the YHHAP Fast launched a weeklong fundraiser to directly benefit three New Haven organizations: New Reach, Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, and HOPE Family Justice Center100% of donations to this fund went toward the emergency aid that these direct service organizations provide to New Haven residents.
