YHHAP Fast

Once every semester, YHHAP organizes the YHHAP Fast — when students can choose to give up their meal swipes for a day and the proceeds are donated to combat hunger and homelessness in New Haven. The Fast is operated in conjunction with Yale Dining Services, and typically involves other undergraduate organizations and local New Haven restaurants and businesses as well.

The proceeds from the Fast are donated to Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Programs (HPRP) at Columbus House, Liberty Community Services, and New Haven Home Recovery. HPRPs are financial assistance programs that keep families at imminent risk of homelessness from losing their housing and help currently homeless families move out of the shelter system. The Spring 2014 Fast raised over $12,000 for HPRP in New Haven.

If you are a student and you want to sign up for the Fast, please log into SIS, select the Dining tab in the upper-right corner, and click on “The Yale Hunger and Homelessness Action Project Sign Up.” Then click yes, and submit!

If you choose to participate in the Fast, you will be giving up one day’s worth of meals, of which the related food expense will be donated to YHHAP. Please note that your regular meal swipes will not work in the dining halls on the day of the Fast. However, you may eat in a dining hall that day if you use guest swipes, charge your meal to your student account, or pay with cash,  Eli Bucks, or Flex Points.

On the day of the Fast, we encourage you to eat out at one of these local restaurants that support the Fast: Caseus Fromagerie & Bistro, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Tomatillo Taco Joint, and Yorkside Pizzeria.

If you represent a student organization and you want to table for the Fast, please let us know, and we can send you the details.

Note to Participants:

If you signed up for the Fast and have changed your mind about participating, select the “No” button in SIS and click Submit.
